Brief History
Energy Conservation Council has endeavored to advance its mission to protect citizens and the environment by mobilizing legal and other resources to demand that energy providers consider every means possible to accomplish the goals of safe reliable, clean energy. Those means must include: demand side management, conservation, and generation closer to demand, for example, before new transmission is considered.
We successfully litigated a complicated PUC proceeding over a 3-year period when the evidence that we had proved that the installation of a new 500 Kv power line slated to be constructed through southwestern PA was environmentally destructive, dangerous and not needed. We also learned that not even the bare minimum was done to protect the environment and citizens of the area.
This brought us to the understanding that our mission needed to be much broader.
Through public awareness programs and continued vigilance we hope to help to foster an attitude that insures clean, environmentally sound and accountable energy development and delivery is always considered first.
